Hawaiian Airlines Raises Fares Hike & Second Bag Fee
Hawaiian Airlines announced yesterday its interisland fares are being raised by $5-$20 each way effective today. In addition, customers purchasing tickets through Hawaiian's reservations department will pay an additional $5 each way to offset the cost of handling reservations by phone. Hawaiian also announced today it will be begin assessing passengers a $25 fee each way for checking in a second piece of luggage on domestic flights between the continental U.S. and Hawaii. The fee doesn't apply to Hawaiian's interisland flights or to its transpacific international flights to the Philippines, Australia, American Samoa and Tahiti. The $25 second bag fee is a match of other major carriers serving Hawaii and takes effect on June 10, 2008. Some Hawaiian Air cawaiian Hustomers are exempt from paying the second bag fee; check with airlines.

Help City set Lei Day record
Today is May Day and the city is still looking for flower lei donations in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the World's Longest Fresh Floral/Greenery Lei today at Kapiolani Park. Lei may be dropped off from 7 to 8:30 a.m. at the park's tennis courts. All lei must be 3 feet long with 6 inches of string on both ends. Festivities start at 9a till 5:30p @ Kapi'olani Park. All events are free and open to the public. Performances by Royal Hawaiian Band, Makaha Sons, Kapena, The Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association, several hula halau. The 2008 Lei Queen Paulette Kahalepuna and her court will be there as well as craft exhibits and demonstrations, lei and food vendors in the park all day.

Protestors End Takeover Of Iolani Palace
A group of more than 35 people left late yesterday afternoon after barring officials from entering the grounds of Iolani Palace claiming sovereign rights over the area. Officials with the Department of Land and Natural Resources State Parks, which manages the palace in cooperation with the Friends of Iolani Palace, closed the area. The situation ended without incident. Authorities didn't make any arrests but one of the leaders said the group planed to return today saying they had a legal right to the land at the palace. Group members placed padlocks on gates of the palace. On at least the front gate a yellow sign saying "Warning! No tresspassing," signed by the Hawaiian Kingdom Government.

Waikiki Aquarium celebrates offical change of seasons with free sunset event
Part of the Waikiki Aquarium's celebration of the International Year of the Reef, Seasons and the Sea takes place from 6 to 7:30p tomorrow (Friday) and will feature traditional chant, hula and mo`olelo. From the ewa site of the Aquarium grounds you'll see the official change from Ho`olilo to Kauwela as the sun sets into the crown of Pu`u o Kapolei (happens only once a year). The event is free and open to the public with light refreshments. Bring mats or low chairs and sunglasses. For more information call 440-9006.
