Brennan, Robinson win Bonham Award
UH football player Colt Brennan and softball player Kate Robinson were named the winners of the Jack Bonham Award at last night's UH Scholar-Athlete Dinner at the Stan Sheriff Center. A total of 164 scholar athletes were honored for their academic excellence. The Bonham Award is considered the highest honor UH gives an athlete food booths, T-shirt sales and memorabilia will be part of the fun at the event. Mahalo to Don Murphy and the staff of Murphy's Bar & Grill and all involved and to Mayor Hannemann for helping to arrange this fund-raiser. For info: 291-2476

Island students win Board of Water Supply poster contest
Nearly 1,900 Oahu students in kindergarten through sixth grade entered the Honolulu Board of Water Supply s 30th annual Water Conservation Week Poster Contest. The 12 winners and 16 honorable mention posters were chosen and will be featured in the BWS's 2009 water conservation calendar, which will be available to the public at the end of the year. Winners were selected based on the quality of artwork and the student's ability to creatively convey the importance of water conservation, in keeping with the contest theme, "Makamae Ka Wai (Precious is the Water)-Use it Wisely." The posters will be on exhibit in the lobby of the BWS Public Services Building through May 16, at Pearlridge Center-Uptown May 18 through May 31, and at Kahala Mall from June 2 through 8, 2008.

'Plantation Days' event celebrates many cultures
This Saturday is the "Festival of Flowers" celebration at Hawaii's Plantation Village showcasing the many cultures of Hawai'i's plantation days. The event is free to the public and runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There'll be performances by different cultural groups, a genealogy workshop and more.

Walk @ Lunch tomorrow downtown
Today is National Walk @ Lunch Day and hundreds of people are expected to participate in the walk around Bishop Square from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. sponsored by HMSA and focuses on fitness, friendship and fun, encouraging people to go walking during their workday as a way to get more physical activity. There will be health information booths and giveaways. Just 30 minutes of walking five times a week benefits the body's muscles, bones and joints. It may also help prevent high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, diabetes, and other serious conditions
