The new Facebook gift cards will be available in values of $15, $25 and $50. This will be the first time Facebook has had any presence in a retail store. It's flu-shot season already, and for the first time health authorities are urging nearly everyone to get vaccinated. There is even a new high-dose version for people 65 or older. What a difference a year makes: Crowds lined up for hours for scarce shots during last fall's swine flu pandemic. This year, a record vaccine supply is expected. Shipments began so early that drugstores are offering vaccinations amid their back-to-school sales.

Only days after announcing that he has throat cancer, actor Michael Douglas is making headlines again -- this time for his remarkable optimism in discussing the late-stage illness on "Late Show with David Letterman." Douglas' upbeat approach also has scientific backing, with numerous studies indicating that humor and positivity can have profound psychological effects for cancer patients and their families. And that, experts think, might even boost odds of remission and long-term recovery.

Breaking up has always been hard to do. Which is why, since the dawn of the Internet, people have been dumping each other via e-mail. Although it's considered to be the most impersonal and cowardly way to initiate a breakup, it is also the easiest. Unfortunately, it has become more commonplace at work, too, as employers are increasingly delivering the pink slip via e-mail.

A Hawaiian plant species thought to be extinct has been found on the Big Island. The Nature Conservancy and Parker Ranch said staff discovered the plant earlier this summer in an upland rain forest on the slopes of Kohala volcano. They were surveying a rare tree snail population on the ranch when they stumbled upon a plant with greenish white flowers and dark green leaves. It was identified it as Cler/mon/tia pele/ana sing/uli/flora, a species last seen on the Big Island in 1909 and last collected in East Maui in 1920. More than 30 plants have been found since, and the conservancy has collected seeds to propagate the species.

Over the weekend, Facebook investigated spam that was plaguing users via Facebook chat. Apparently victims received a friend's Facebook chat message, which read, "LOL is this you?" and contained a link. Upon clicking the link, the user was sent to a 404-error page, which compromised his or her account, and then used it to spam other Facebook friends. This outbreak is similar to the direct-message "Lol. this you?" direct message Twitter spam that appeared back in February.
